Now, it's Christmas ...

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes, music is like instant nostalgia. I hear certain songs and they just bring back memories. I love this time of year because I get to hear music that brings back memories from my childhood Christmases and I have decided to share.

Take a listen and if you're bold enough, download it. All the songs will fit on a standard 80 minute CD. I hope you can remember these songs as fondly and my family and I.

Morning soundtrack No. 1

Everyday I wake up, there's a song playing in my head. It usually overrides whatever Tom Joyner and the crew are discussing when my clock radio switches on. I'm not sure when this started, but I noticed it last year when I realized I can't exactly function until I get this song out of my head. That usually happens when I sing it in the shower or listen to it while on my way to work.

Last week, I had the pleasure of waking up to the sounds of Queen for about three days straight. First, it was "Somebody to Love," and why wouldn't it be? That's a great song. I mean, it was great enough for the cast of "Glee" to remake it (and do an excellent job by the way).

The second day it was "Bohemian Rhapsody." That one I blame on my niece. She recently discovered The Muppets version of this song and now walks around singing it nonstop - in the voice of Gonzo.

Then of course on Friday, I woke up singing "Another One Bites the Dust" to end my week. That's just the perfect Friday song. At this point, I'm pretty sure my neighbors are convinced I have Queen's Greatest Hits on repeat right now.

If that's not enough, this week's featured artist is Aerosmith. A little "Tiffany Trivia," Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, the Dixie Chicks (they count as a band, right?) Earth Wind & Fire, Tony Toni Tone and Mint Condition are my favorite bands. I have more music by those bands floating in my iPod than any others.

In fact, one of my favorite songs of all time is "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing." But for some reason, this is the song that has been dominating my morning showers this week:

Welcome ...

Welcome to my very first post on Jukebox In My Head! I am so excited to have a place where I can totally unleash the wonderful soundtrack that plays in my head nonstop. I wake up every day with a different song playing as I start my day. Like the O'Jays sang, "I love music - any kind of music," and I am looking forward to sharing it with all of you!

I don't know if I have a favorite genre of music, but I will say I probably own more gospel and rhythm & blues than anything. It's the music I grew up on and it's where I find my comfort.  While I was growing up, the sounds of Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Walter Hawkins and Shirley Caesar filled my home. I can almost guarantee on any day you can walk into the home I've made for myself and hear some of that same music.

Since I've grown a little older and had many experiences and exposure to different things, I have grown to love country music, a lot of classic rock and some pop music as well. If you were to put my iPod on shuffle, you might hear anything from Otis Redding to Queen to Clint Black to Kirk Franklin. My musical tastes vary and so shall posts on this blog.

So, welcome, I hope I post music you like, will learn to like or at the very least, tolerate. And I'm open to suggestions. Let's hope I don't sell away all my possessions just to pay iTunes. :-D
